Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

Simply download CalixOne and launch the app. Your cryptographic identity is created automatically on first run — no account registration, no email, no phone number required.

How do I add a contact?

Go to the Contacts tab and tap the add button. You can scan your contact's QR code directly, or paste their Base64 identity code manually. Your contact does the same with your QR code.

What happens if I lose my phone?

If you have exported your 12-word backup mnemonic (in Profile → Backup), you can restore your identity on a new device. Without the mnemonic, your identity cannot be recovered — keep it safe.

How do I back up my vault?

Open the Vault tab → tap the menu icon → Backup. Set a passphrase and export the .clxvault file. To restore, use Vault → Restore and provide the same passphrase.

Why can't my contact receive my call?

Both devices need an active internet connection. Make sure both users have the app installed and have exchanged contacts via QR code. For background calls, ensure notifications are enabled.

Is my data stored on your servers?

No. All messages, files, notes, and keys are stored locally on your device only. Our signaling server only relays WebRTC connection handshakes — it never stores or reads your content.

What is the Vault?

The Vault is an encrypted on-device storage for your sensitive notes, documents, and images. Notes are protected with post-quantum CRYSTALS-Kyber-768 encryption. Files use ChaCha20-Poly1305.

What does "post-quantum encryption" mean?

Post-quantum cryptography refers to algorithms designed to resist attacks from quantum computers. CalixOne uses CRYSTALS-Kyber-768 (NIST FIPS 203) for vault notes — the same standard being adopted by governments and security agencies worldwide.
